Spring Summer Sam is ready for spring 😉
I love this fresh-faced, purple-accented makeup look, and I look forward to wearing more bright colors in the months to come! In particular, I am in love with the Weenie Colourpop Cosmetics eyeshadow, and Julep Snapdragon lip creme that I am wearing here. They are such pretty shimmery purples and I love how they look together!
Here is everything else that I’m wearing:
- Ulta Cosmetics Demi Matte Foundation in Warm Deep (full review here)
- Colourpop Cosmetics Weenie Supershock Shadow
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in Dark Brown
- Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow
- Elf Cosmetics Jackie Aina palette (brown shade used for brows)
- Milani Cosmetics Trifecta Mascara
- Julep Beauty Lip Mousse in Snapdragon
- Mother Earth’s flowers
Today I want to share with you guys something not-so-secret: my skin isn’t great. In a world of Photoshop and Airbrush apps and Perfect 365 we are led to believe that most people have perfect, Instagramable skin. I’m not one of those people, and I’m not alone. I know this is the case for many people with brown or dark skin. I’ve struggled with acne for most of my life and have lots of scarring and hyperpigmentation to prove it. Today I want to show you how I cover it up using some of my favorite makeup products.
Now, I’m not ashamed of my skin AT ALL. It took me a long time to accept the fact that this is just the way my skin is. I love makeup but believe it or not, I go out in the world makeup-free a lot of the time. Some days I just don’t feel like wearing makeup, and it’s a beautiful thing. I hope that other people who deal with skin issues can get to that place too. Be confident, because no one will ever love or support you more than yourself 💁🏾

My makeup only has two settings: Rainbow Brite or nothing. Yesterday I practiced blending out my eyeshadow and chose two unlikely color combinations: pink and green. This look took a while to blend and layer together, but it was worth the effort. I ended up loving how this eyeshadow look turned out.
I used a pink Morphe’s eyeshadow and a green Urban Decay eyeshadow for this look. I started out by applying the ELF Cosmetics Smudge Pot in Pearls of Wisdom as a base first, as always. I never skip this step when applying eyeshadow because I find it’s the best way to make the colors really pop!
After applying the base, I patted the pink Morphe eyeshadow (named Mysterious) in my inner corner and about halfway to the middle of my lid. I then applied the green eyeshadow to my outer corners and added a brown eyeshadow from the Morphe 350 palette in my crease to blend everything out. I repeated these three steps a couple of times to build up the intensity of the eyeshadows.
This is definitely a look that I plan to recreate in the future with different colors – perhaps with a yellow and blue?!
If you have any questions leave them down below and I will be happy to answer them!
I’m currently on a family vacation in London (and soon Paris) with family, and one of the surprisingly least stressful things I’ve had to worry about is what to pack in my makeup bag while travelling for 10 days.
I approached this task with the attitude that less is more and variety is cumbersome. I didn’t plan to photograph any makeup tutorials or do anything too creative, so I only packed the basics. In all, I have 26 makeup items in my small travel bag. This may sound like a lot, but I know I’ll use each product more than once, which makes it worth it in my opinion.
The hardest thing to whittle down were the lipsticks. I am a lipstick hoarder but decided to bring the top 3 that I’ve been reaching for the most lately.
So here are the 26 (!) things that I fit in a travel makeup bag:
- 2 BS Mall foundation brushes (check out my review of BS Mall brushes here)
- 2 Estee Lauder Double Wear foundations (1 had only a few drops left, so I brought a backup)
- 1 Sephora powder brush
- BS Mall blush brush
- Anastasia Beverly Hills #12 brush
- ELF “C” brush
- ELF Defining Eye Brush
- Morphe B81 brush
- Too Faced Primed and Poreless loose face powder
- ELF Pressed Mineral blush in Wanderlust
- Tarte Fearless blush
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in Dark Brown
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Medium Brown
- ELF Smudge Pot in Brownie Points
- Urban Decay Naked 1 Palette
- Estee Lauder Matte Perfecting Primer
- Revlon Colorstay eyeliner in brown
- Rimmel Exaggerate eyeliner in nude
- Maybelline The Falsies waterproof mascara
- Estee Lauder Sumptuous mascara
- Maybelline Eyestudio gel eyeliner
- Maybelline Touch of Spice lipstick
- NYX Suede Matte Lip Cream in Soft Spoken
- Rimmel lipstick #104
NYX Stone Fox Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick is one of my favorite lip products ever, but I hardly ever wear it because of the unconventional color. I’ve had it for months and have only worn it out in public twice. To my surprise, both times people complimented me on the color and asked me what it was. I really should muster up the courage to wear it more often!
I paired NYX’s Stone Fox with a metallic blue-grey eyeshadow look, which is a combination of the shimmery blue eyeshadow in the Morphe 12S South of Summer Palette and Gunmetal from Urban Decay’s original Naked Palette. To make the look slightly softer and more wearable, I blended out the edges with a brown transitional shade and skipped eyeliner to make this eye look less dramatic. I dabbed extra Gunmetal in the inner corners to make the eyes pop and smoked a bit of black eyeshadow in the outer corner, too.
I personally love the way this eyeshadow turned out and can’t wait to do something similar again! Maybe with a peach eyeshadow next time?
